The International Alliance of Law Firms sponsors several special interest groups (SIGs) comprising attorneys from defined areas of legal practice. These SIGs meet regularly on conference calls and through in-person meetings to discuss the latest legal developments in their respective jurisdictions and best practices in their area of law. The Alliance Employment Law SIG met last month and discussed common pitfalls in employment law in several of the members’ jurisdictions, including China, Germany, France, the US, and the UK. Among the issues discussed by this group of experienced practitioners are the current thoughts on subcontracting services, fixed-term employment contracts, and termination of executive employees.
