Over the past year, as we have been preparing to celebrate our 30th anniversary as a network, many of you have submitted stories highlighting your collaborations with fellow delegates and member firms. Many of those stories have highlighted the value of face-to-face interactions — our time spent together has solidified relationships and reinforced the skills and expertise we can deliver to our clients.
Unfortunately, the novel coronavirus, government and business travel policies, and an uncertain economy have rendered many of these in-person meetings impossible. To protect the health and safety of our members, guests, staff, and the employees of our vendor hotels and restaurants, the Ally Law Executive and our host firms made the decision to cancel our 2020 Annual General Meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia.
In one sense, the decision was easy: your safety is paramount. But it was also quite difficult. We, too, value the time we spend with all of you. However, we strongly believe that our relationships — our network — will remain strong and vibrant during this challenging time.
I also believe that Ally Law — as an effective, global legal network — is uniquely positioned to help clients facing this worldwide crisis. Almost anywhere our clients have business relationships, operations or investments, we have member lawyers who can help. As you are working with your clients, I encourage you to take full advantage of the resources we can offer to help them meet today’s challenges.
