Cannabis

Our Cannabis industry group includes members in countries where cannabis has been legalized and where legislative and regulatory proposals to loosen restrictions are under consideration.

Countries around the world and most US states have legalized some form of cannabis production, distribution and retail sales, whether for medical purposes, recreational use or both. Statutes and regulations governing the activities of cannabis business owners, investors and customers, however, vary widely particularly in the United States, where state laws permitting the sale and use of cannabis conflict directly with federal laws that classify THC-containing cannabis as a Schedule I controlled substance.

Members of the group come from a wide range of disciplines including corporate law, banking, securities and finance, healthcare, intellectual property, real estate, white-collar criminal defense, and more but each has developed in-depth knowledge of this complex and rapidly expanding economic sector.

The team includes leading authorities on cannabis law who serve regularly as go-to advisors for businesses, employers, investors, healthcare providers and others. Many of our lawyers are also sought-after commentators who are regularly quoted by journalists, appear on live television and video-streamed news programming and testify before government bodies at every level. Our focus group holds regular global meetings including videoconferences as well as in-person discussions and hosts network-wide discussions at global Ally Law events.
