Tax Lawyers Discuss Remote Work Implications

On February 22, 12 lawyers from 11 jurisdictions met to discuss if there is increased clarity on taxation surrounding permanent establishment and remote workers since the pandemic began two years ago. Topics included:

  • Current level of remote workers and perception on whether or not this is the new way of doing business
  • Tax guidance in local jurisdictions: if it exists, level of stringency, and if its binding
  • What constitutes permanent residency
  • Implications of taxation treaties in cross border workers
  • Amnesty for travel restrictions and closed borders
  • Perception of post Covid world

The meeting was moderated by Ramona Azzopardi, of WH Partners, our Malta member. Guest speakers included: Balint Zsoldos of KPG Partner in Hungary and William Mathiotte of Alerion in France.
